We conducted a competitive analysis of direct competitors, which helped us identify key insights on the information and visual elements needed to enhance the onboarding process.

Project Overview
The product
Twistoo is a platform for creating and publishing gamified marketing promotions, like scratch cards and wheel of fortune, for websites and online stores.
The problem
The registration, onboarding process, and dashboard lacked essential information, making it unclear what a gamified promotion is or how to create one. This significantly impacted user acquisition.
The goal
Our primary goals are to grow the customer base, increase active campaigns, and improve company retention on Twistoo. Secondarily, we aim to collect user contacts, build trust, and set clear expectations for the platform.
Responsibilities
Conducting competitive analysis, creating paper wireframes, managing the design system, and designing the dashboard prototype.
Understanding the problem
Usability Evaluation
We also assessed Twistoo’s original design by going through the registration and onboarding process ourselves. Using heuristic evaluation, we identified usability issues and design pain points, determining areas for improvement to better align with the project’s objectives.
Pain points
1. Onboarding process
The product lacks information and friendly instructions about what it offers and how to start creating a campaign.
2. Informative elements
The dashboard does not effectively display the performance of deployed campaigns, negatively impacting the user experience during ongoing use.
3. Wording
The terms "Promotion" and "Payment" are not intuitive, hindering users' understanding of how to create campaigns and top up their accounts.
4. Aesthetics
The design is text-heavy and lacks illustrative elements, making it difficult for users to grasp content quickly and easily.
Starting the design
Paper wireframes
We sketched various wireframe options on paper based on research insights and additional references. This process helped us identify the most effective solution and align our thoughts before moving forward with the prototype design.
The solution
Registration
Since this is the first page users visit, we identified opportunities to enhance the design with visuals and information highlighting the benefits of using the product. We made it more engaging by incorporating visuals and captions, along with additional options for easier access.
Company details
After introducing our platform, we want to learn more about our users. To achieve this, we suggested a brief survey following registration to capture insights for future improvements. The final page emphasises our offer of 100 free games, encouraging users to continue engaging with us.
Onboarding
One main challenge was the lack of information during the onboarding process. To address this, first-time users will see an onboarding achievement on the dashboard that outlines steps and progress for launching a campaign. Additionally, a tooltip tour will highlight key features, inviting users to explore and familiarise themselves with the platform, reducing the need for further assistance.
Dashboard
Another challenge was the lack of big-picture analytics. To address this, the dashboard now provides insights such as the top three campaigns and easy access to the recently edited campaign. Content is refined and organised for easier navigation, and access to blogs enables users to learn from case studies and discover best practices.
Overall, we aim to ensure users can successfully create and deploy gamified campaigns on their websites and gain valuable insights from them.
Reflection
Participating in my first hackathon was both challenging and rewarding. In the fast-paced environment, I learned the importance of clear communication, dividing tasks based on strengths, and making quick decisions. Also, working with teammates from diverse backgrounds was a memorable experience. I had to accept that perfection wasn’t feasible within the tight time constraints. However, by understanding the brief and prioritising tasks, we met the client’s expectations and even earned an award.
The key gap during the project was the limited access to users for the research phase. Instead, we relied on online research and heuristic evaluation, which provided valuable insights based on design principles. However, without direct user input, we couldn’t be certain if the solutions fully addressed user needs. Therefore, a key next step is to engage with potential users to enhance the product's usability.
